谷角日沙春 Tanikado Hisaharu (1893-1971)
A Japanese Nihonga painter born in Hyogo Prefecture. He studied under the renowned Kyoto painter Kikuchi Keigetsu and first exhibited at the Bunten Exhibition in 1918. In 1933, he received the Special Prize at the Teiten (Imperial Art Exhibition), establishing his reputation as one of the accomplished Nihonga artists of his generation. Tanikado is best known for his refined bijin-ga (paintings of beautiful women), which combine elegant composition with delicate brushwork. While his early works often depicted women of the Yoshiwara pleasure district, his mature style evolved toward graceful portrayals of Kyoto women and classical Japanese subjects. Today, his works are included in the collections of major Japanese museums, including the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto.
