Around 1830, he returned to his hometown Kurashiki and opened a painting school. In his later years, he broadened the scope of his work by adopting Nanga painting.

岡本金波 Okamoto Kinpa (1823-1896)
A Japanese painter who was active around Okayama. Studied under Furuichi Kinga.

Upper signature 'Kinga' 金峨 and seal 'Ranzan Shofu' 藍山樵夫
with signature 'Kinpa' 金波 and seal 'Koryo in' 岡凌印

A soft, seasonal atmosphere settles across the paired scrolls, the quiet presence of the Java sparrow and the shifting tones of wisteria and autumn grasses creating a gentle contrast that reflects the differing sensibilities of two painters working in harmony; Furuichi Kinga (1805–1880), a late Edo to Meiji artist from Kurashiki who trained in the Shijo school under Okamoto Toyohiko before later incorporating elements of nanga, and Okamoto Kinpa (1823–1896), his student active around Okayama, each contribute a distinct hand, with the upper signature ‘Kinga’ and the seal ‘Ranzan Shofu’ marking one scroll, and the signature ‘Kinpa’ with the seal ‘Koryo in’ marking the other, while the pair is accompanied by its box, allowing the quiet dialogue between spring and autumn motifs to settle into a balanced, enduring presence.
